TextMate 1.5
Whether you are a programmer or a designer, the production of code and markup is hard work. Without an editor dedicated to the task, it is also often cumbersome, overwhelming, and repetitive. Img2icns
In passato abbiamo spesso parlato di semplici programmi per creare icone, così da poter cambiare il look dei nostro amati Mac. Oggi parleremo di un’altra piccola applicazione che in due clic ci permetterà di creare splendide icone personalizzate, così da rendere ancor più uniche e speciale le Scrivanie dei nostri già splendidi Mac.
Il programma in questione é Img2icns, sviluppato dalla italiana Shiny Frog, che nonostante l’anglofono nome, ha sede a Parma.

Adobe Photoshop CS6 13.0 Pre Release
While in early beta stages, Adobe appears to be working on a new, darker interface for the next version of Photoshop that resembles Pixelmator. In addition to the new appearance (which in beta stage at least, offers an option to revert to the existing platinum appearance), Photoshop will feature new 3D tools, healing brush and red-eye reduction enhancements, and a perspective cropping tool. A long-time complaint about the Creative Suite upgrades is the frequency with which the upgrades arrive (every 18 months for the last dozen years or so). I don’t agree with those complaints, but Adobe is doing their best to address the situation. The entire Creative Suite is now on an annual development cycle, with major upgrades occurring in even years, and minor updates in odd years. Creative Suite 5 was a major upgrade released in 2010, and CS 5.5 (a relatively minor update) in 2011. So you can expect another major upgrade about early-to-mid 2012 if they keep with the plan. While this new schedule is actually more frequent, there is a good reason. Adobe plans to work on major updates for every other release, and use the in between release for fixes and features that can be quickly added to address changes in technology. In addition, Adobe plans to release the upgrades and updates mid-year annually, so we can better plan our purchases. Adobe has also announced that all major languages will be released at once. This is huge for those outside of North America. In the past, various languages took weeks or even months to catch up. And now the bad news Adobe recently announced at their MAX Conference that a new upgrade policy will be in effect moving forward. Along with their Adobe Creative Cloud offering ($50 per month subscription plan for CS applications), users who wish to keep their normal license and upgrade to Creative Suite 6, must already own CS5 or CS5.5. That means users of previous versions will have to pay two upgrade fees in order to get CS6. For customers who prefer to remain on the current licensing model, we will continue to offer our individual point products and Adobe Creative Suite editions as perpetual licenses. With regards to upgrades, we are changing our policy for perpetual license customers. In order to qualify for upgrade pricing when CS6 releases, customers will need to be on the latest version of our software (either CS5 or CS5.5 editions). If our customers are not yet on those versions, we’re offering a 20% discount through December 31, 2011 which will qualify them for upgrade pricing when we release CS6. Yeah, that’s not going to go over well with many users!

Money 4.1
Jumsoft (http://www.jumsoft.com) has upgraded Money, its finance and budgeting application for Mac OS X, to version 4. It requires Mac OS X 10.6 or higher and is available for US$18.99 until July 31. Money provides small businesses and home users with a tool to track their finances. Among other features, version 4 features a redesigned interface, allows direct downloads from banks, and institutes smart importing rules and a document-based system that allows multiple users to work with a single copy of the application. Jumsoft General Manager lgirdas Unguvaitis says Money 4 provides a flexible way of recording financial transactions in multiple types of accounts: cash, bank, credit card, loan, investment, and asset. With Money 4, users can create a budget plan and monitor the actual outcome. The Portfolio feature displays a view of investments. Money 4 is available from the Jumsoft website and the Mac App Store in the Finance category. A free trial version is available from the Jumsoft site.

Entropy
Entropy è una applicazione facile e molto versatile, in grado di creare, modificare ed estrarre un gran numero di formati di archiviazione; in più quest'oggi la potremo ottenere con il 50% di sconto sul suo prezzo normale.
Le applicazioni che gestiscono i vari formati di archiviazione sono davvero molteplici, ma Entropy la più avanzata e la più completa aplicazione (così dicono gli sviluppatori) in grado di creare, modificare ed estrarre un grandissimo numero di questi formati oggi presenti sul web. Ecco alcune delle sue caratteristiche:

Real VNC is a decent remote access tool which comes in two versions suitable for home and business users. It provides fast and efficient remote access to computers running a variety of different operating systems so it is ideal for anyone who regularly uses different platforms. It isn't quite as easy to set up as some of the solutions aimed squarely at home users, but it provides more control over how connections are made.
The main function of Real VNC is to allow you to connect to a remote computer and take control as if you were sitting in front of it. The software handles this with ease on each of the most common operating systems and provides cross platform support so that, for example, you can control a Mac from a Windows PC. A free edition, personal edition or enterprise edition is available and each caters for different groups of users. The free edition may suffice for some people, but it excludes a lot of the useful features, like file transfers, that the personal edition offers. The enterprise edition is the only one which provides full cross-platform support and enhanced security.
Both the personal edition and enterprise edition provide extra features on top of the basic remote control functionality that help make common tasks easier. File transfers can be achieved using the familiar drag and drop mechanism and files can be printed from the remote computer. Also included is the ability to initiate a chat with someone in front of the remote computer and scale their desktop to fit the monitor you are working on. Home and business users alike will find these features useful for providing remote assistance or configuring a computer remotely.
Setting up Real VNC is relatively simple, but it does require a bit more effort than the types of solutions which use a middleman server to make connections. To connect to a remote machine you must know its IP address and any firewalls or routers it is behind must be configured to allow Real VNC access. This can be a bit daunting for novice users to set up, but anyone with some technical knowledge should manage it. Installing the client software itself is very simple and, once that is done, the remote computer can be accessed through a web browser or using the desktop client.
The free edition of Real VNC does not provide any security except basic user authentication and so it is not really suitable for anything other than home use where no sensitive data will be transmitted. The personal edition and enterprise editions both provide enhanced security which makes them suitable for any types of use. Two levels of authentication are required in these versions and all communication is handled using SSL encryption.
Real VNC is a good quality and reasonably priced application. It doesn't offer quite the number of features some of the more expensive products in this category offer, but the cheaper price reflects this and the main functionality still works well. Both home and business users should find that Real VNC caters for all of their needs and, if you only want basic remote access and security isn't an issue, the free version is well worth checking out.

Avery Design Pro
Avery Office Products, the purveyor of labels, blank business cards, binder dividers, greeting cards, and iron-on t-shirt transfers, has released a free application called Design Pro for Mac.
This software was demoed at Macworld Expo in January and is now available for download (registration required) from the Avery website. Design Pro contains over 2,000 clip art and photo images, as well as over 1,300 pre-designed templates for various projects. It is integrated with iPhoto as well, so you can use all of your own photos to create CD/DVD labels, birthday cards, and other fun projects. If you're burning your own music CDs, Design Pro can grab playlist or tune information from iTunes, and it's also able to use your Address Book for doing mail merges.
Avery Design Pro for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5. Be aware - the download is 262MB in size!

When working with Macs and PCs at the same time, you will at some time hit the stumbling block of hard drives with different formats. Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X is an NTFS driver that provides full read/write access to NTFS formatted volume with the same speed as OS X's native HFS+ format. The latest version of the driver features full support for 64-bit Snow Leopard , but can also be used in 32-bit mode. Using the driver means that shared files can be accessed with ease without the need for potentially expensive hardware. With the driver installed, existing files on NTFS partitions can be modified and deleted, and you also have the option of creating new files. Use of the driver is incredibly simple and a driver can be used to mount NTFS partitions. There are no limits to the size of NTFS partitions that can be accessed, and support is available non-Roman characters. A Windows version of the driver is also available that can be used to enable Windows computer to access HFS+ partitions. NTFS for Mac 9 ships with support for OS X Lion and stability improvements. FIleMaker Pro 11
Da alcuni giorni è possibile scaricare e mettere alla prova, ma anche acquistare in diverse varietà, la versione 11 di FileMaker Pro, gestore di database per Mac OS X, ma anche per Windows, che oltre al sito in italiano adesso offre anche la versione del programma nella nostra lingua, sia pure limitatamente a quella scaricabile: la scatola spedita per posta rimane dunque box.
Oltre al database in versione completa esiste anche una versione per utenti Mac OS X, iPhone e iPod Touch chiamata Bento, studiata soprattutto per mettere ordine nelle playlist, nelle immagini o in altri contenuti più legati ad attività familiari o personali che non alla gestione di affari aziendali.
Il programma si rivolge anche a utenti alle prime armi, che magari vogliono passare dal foglio di calcolo al database per una gestione più efficace di immagini e altri dati, non solo sul proprio computer Windows o Mac OS X, ma anche sul Web, grazie alla caratteristica denominata appunto pubblicazione web immediata.
D'altra parte, il sito web del produttore, pur sottolineando la semplicità d'uso come un foglio di calcolo, sembra puntare di più su altre caratteristiche più professionali, ovvero l'interoperabilità, come esemplificata nell'importazione ricorrente da Excel, CSV o Tab; la creazione automatica di grafici, anche in modalità push per la versione server, con i rispettivi stili e formati; la ricerca rapida nei dati, e le soluzioni predisposte e rese prontamente accessibili tramite modelli.
Quanto ai prezzi di listino, reperibili anche sul negozio online, la versione completa di FileMaker Pro 11 costa 349 €, mentre l'aggiornamento solo 209; come al solito, il prezzo di listino suggerito in euro non comprende l'IVA. La versione Advanced del programma, particolarmente adatta per sviluppatori e amministratori di database, costa invece 499 €, con riduzione a 299 per l'aggiornamento; infine, la versione Server sfiora i 1.000 € (uno di resto per l'esattezza), 599 per l'aggiornamento; infine, la versione FileMaker Server 11 Advanced costa 2.849 € con riduzione a 1.709 per l'aggiornamento.
Per un periodo limitato di tempo, precisamente fino al 23 settembre 2010, potranno acquistare una licenza aggiornamento anche i possessori di vecchie licenze delle versioni 8 e 8.5. In vendita anche il materiale di apprendimento, in inglese, che si può scaricare dal sito, oppure acquistare come manuale cartaceo + DVD per 99 € oltre alle eventuali spese di spedizione.
